Portman voted against same-sex marriage many times and made speeches supporting the Republican platform, which specifically rails against gays getting married. But now he's changed his mind, he said today, because his son is gay.
So, let me get this straight: It's OK to hate an entire group of people based solely on how they were born. But if your own family member is born that way, then you're no longer filled with hate for that group the son belongs to. Do I have that right?
I've never understood how people can hate gays and how they can hate the idea of them getting married. The same group of people will fight for guns, citing the Second Amendment, yet they'll not answer why they don't believe in the Fourteenth Amendment, equal rights for all. They're so hate-filled that they don't even make any sense.
I hope the voters of Ohio will remember what Portman said last year and not this year, and vote the bastard out. He doesn't deserve to be rewarded with anything at all, certainly not the job of Senator in such a pivotal state for national elections. He's a Neanderthal and he should go.
As for Portman's son, I wish him the best in his life as a gay man. He'll need everyone's good wishes, living in that family that never considered the rights of anyone other than those of white males who claim to be religious and upstanding citizens. Be aware of those who put labels on themselves and others. They just might have skeletons in their closets -- or gay people.

If you oppose incest marriage, do you hate incestuous people? Are you incestophobic?
Gays are born gay, but why do we have to 'celebrate' their gayness?
Some people are blind, but we don't celebrate their blindness. If we don't allow blind people to drive, is it hating blind people?
Btw, some people are born with voracious sex appetites and want multiple spouses. Since you oppose polygamy, do you hate people who wanna marry more than one person?

I can't believe the hatefulness of the hate-filled haters commenting here. Anyone who's not a hater can see the long-term benefits society will reap by getting same-sex couples to marry each other. After all, in recorded history humans have never had same-sex marriage, and what have we accomplished? Almost nothing. Once same-sex marriage is accepted and common, our descendants will marvel at the high level of civilization we will then be able to reach, and wonder how we could have put off implementing such an all-important tool of societal development for so long.
What other public issues do Portman's kids decide for him? He should let the voters know, shouldn't he?
The next time he runs, his kids should be interviewed or even have to debate.

Look up the percentages of homosexuals who marry or civil union when it is available to them. Tiny. A tiny percentage of the 2% who are homosexual. The whole issue is a distraction. Homosexuals are very narcissistic and antagonistic by nature and they have mugged 70% of the under 30 generation.
Hundreds of years from now, social scientists will study this bizarre phenomenon.
